J. L. Bell wrote “A Good Man but a Bad Wizard?” in The Characters of Oz. His past articles on Oz have dissected an L. Frank Baum manuscript, analyzed Dorothy Gale as a conqueror, and explored how Baum used historic stereotypes. Bell’s stories have won the Oz Club’s Fred Otto Prize for fiction several times. In the great outside world, he is author of The Road to Concord: How Four Stolen Cannon Ignited the Revolutionary War.
