ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center

Livability.com recently ranked this one-of-a-kind destination as the No. 1 children’s library in the United States. ImaginOn is an impressive establishment, containing:

  • A 102,000-square-foot facility
  • Two state-of-the-art theatres (one of which is tentatively programmed)
  • A dedicated library space for kids 11 and under
  • Four multi-use classrooms
  • A teen-only library
  • A multimedia production studio
  • An interactive exhibit space

A collaborative effort between the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, ImaginOn will feature presentations related to Oz literature (especially children’s and young adult).

Literature must have a formal publishing company. No self-published submission.

This room is for traditional lectures and special events, and has a seating capacity of 80.

Special Collections

The library’s collection of rare books includes early editions from the Wizard of Oz series and other works by L. Frank Baum, many of which will be on display on the first floor of the library.

Area 49

Area 49

Area 49 contains a variety of technology and creation experiences with option of displays throughout the Atkins Library including:

  • Access to video studios
  • Gaming labs
  • 3-D printers and more
